Eid-ul-Adha 2024 holiday: Are the stock market and banks closed on June 17?

Eid-ul-Adha 2024 will be observed on Monday, June 17. On Id-Uz-Zuha, known as the festival of sacrifice, public and private banks in most states will remain closed, as per the official holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Eid-Al-Adha is a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act of the central bank.

Bakrid 2024 bank holiday

According to the RBI, banks will remain closed on June 17 in states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Telangana, and others. However, there is no bank holiday in Aizawl, Gangtok, and Itanagar.

Despite the holiday, online banking services like net banking and mobile banking will be available.

Besides regular Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays closure, banks will also remain closed in June 2024 due to Maharana Pratap Jayanti, Young Mizo Association Day, Raja Sankranti, Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjun Dev ji, and Vat Savitri Vrat.

Stock Market on Eid-ul-Adha 2024

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) will remain closed for trading on Monday. The exchanges will resume regular trading on Tuesday, June 18.

MCX and NCDEX on Bakri Id 2024

No trading will occur in the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) in the morning session (9 am to 5 pm) on Monday. However, trading in the evening from 5 pm to 9 pm will be allowed.

Due to Eid-ul-Adha, National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) will be closed for trading.

Government officials and educational institutions

Government offices and educational institutions in most states will also observe a holiday on June 17. Many private firms will remain closed.

After June 17, the stock exchanges will mark the next public holiday on July 17, i.e. Muharram.
