Durga Puja holiday: Banks to remain closed in multiple states till Oct 2; check schedule

Bank holidays in India vary from state to state, as different states celebrate different holidays. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, September 29 is a mandated bank holiday for Agartala, Kolkata and Guwahati for Maha Saptami, the seventh day of the Durga Puja festival, which means all banks will remain closed in Tripura, West Bengal and Assam.

This week has many bank holidays, as banks are closed in one state or another in India on all seven days of the week.

Banks will be closed in many cities on September 29, 30 and 1 for Durga Puja celebrations. On October 2, banks will remain closed pan-India for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra.

Banks all across India are closed on all Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays of each month. While bank closure can cause delays in payments and other inconveniences, note that online and mobile banking services and NEFT and RTGS services are available even on holidays (unless specified otherwise). Further, ATMs remain open for cash withdrawals, and UPI and apps work as usual.
