Donald Trump speech: In his first address to a joint session of Congress since his return to power, on Wednesday, March 5 (IST), US President Donald Trump said that “small-business optimism in the US saw its single-largest one-month gain ever recorded—a 41-point jump.”

Trump claimed that, since taking office again, he has already achieved the lowest number of illegal border crossings “ever recorded.”

The US President said, "America is back," and that rescuing the economy is his highest priority.

Trump added that the US is working tirelessly to end the savage conflict in Ukraine. The president further said that the US has accomplished a lot in the first 43 days.

Trump began, saying, “Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this Capitol and proclaimed the dawn of the Golden Age of America.”

“From that moment on, it has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country,” Trump said. “We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplish in 4 years or 8 years—and we are just getting started.”

“The American dream is surging bigger and better than before.”

Trump added that hiring will be based on merit, and the US economy suffered its worst inflation in 48 years.

Trump also said that Joe Biden has been the worst president in American history.

Trump also said that the Gold Card is better than a Green Card.

Trump's address comes amid global turmoil driven by his stiff new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China.

Meanwhile, United States Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick on Tuesday hinted that President Donald Trump could consider some tariff relief for Canada and Mexico.

He said the president would " figure it out," which would involve reducing some of the 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico.

In an interview with Fox Business, Lutnick said, "Both the Mexicans and the Canadians were on the phone with me all day today trying to show that they'll do better, and the president's listening, because you know he's very, very fair and very reasonable." READ MORE

The president further said that ⁠India puts over 100% tariff on the US.
