“The Government of India has approved the revision of commission rates payable to Arthiyas and cooperative societies engaged in procurement of wheat and paddy… effective from the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2026-27 onwards,” the consumer affairs ministry said in a statement.

The revision follows recommendations of a sub-committee comprising representatives from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), state governments and the Department of Food and Public Distribution, which reviewed the existing structure after requests from states.

“Based on requests received from various State Governments… a sub-committee was constituted… [which] examined the prevailing rates and recommended revision of the commission structure,” it said.

Under the revised rates, commission payable to arthiyas for wheat procurement in Punjab and Haryana has been increased to ₹50.75 per quintal from ₹46 per quintal, while in Rajasthan it has been raised to ₹45.67 per quintal from ₹41.40 per quintal.

For paddy procurement, the commission for arthiyas has been hiked to ₹50.61 per quintal from ₹45.88 per quintal.

The government has also revised commission rates for cooperative societies.

“The commission for procurement of wheat will increase from ₹27.00 per quintal to ₹29.79 per quintal, while for paddy it will increase from ₹32.00 per quintal to ₹35.30 per quintal,” the statement said.

As per existing policy, procurement at modern silos will continue to attract lower payouts.

“For procurement carried out at modern silos, the commission payable will be 50 per cent of the rate applicable in mandis,” it said.

The ministry said commission is paid to arthiyas, cooperatives, societies and sub-agents for providing intermediary and aggregation services in procurement operations carried out on behalf of the government.

“The revision of commission rates is aimed at ensuring the continued efficiency of the procurement system and supporting the agencies involved,” it added.
