The council granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for procuring 31 New Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts (NWJFACs) for the Indian Navy. These crafts are designed for low-intensity maritime operations, surveillance, coastal patrols, and search-and-rescue missions. They will also play a crucial role in anti-piracy operations, particularly near India’s island territories.

A total of 120 Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC-1) will be procured for coastal defence and escort duties, including protecting high-value assets like aircraft carriers and submarines.

The DAC also approved the procurement of Electronic Warfare Suites (EWS) for the Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft. These systems include advanced jamming pods, next-generation radar warning receivers, and associated equipment to safeguard the aircraft against enemy radars and air defence systems.

"This system will enhance the operational capabilities of SU-30 MKI and protect it from enemy radars and related weapon system while carrying out a mission against enemy targets protected by Air Defence systems," the defence ministry said in a release.

The council cleared the purchase of six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk III for the Indian Coast Guard to strengthen coastal security.

The DAC also approved the overhaul of T-72 and T-90 tanks, BMP infantry combat vehicles, and the engines of Sukhoi fighter aircraft, thereby extending their service life and operational readiness.
