“In the upcoming session, the government will introduce its first budget for their term. This budget will be an impressive document of the far-reaching policies and futuristic vision of the government. In this budget, along with major economic and social decisions, many historical steps are also to be seen,” President Droupadi Murmu said, calling the budget "futiristic" and adding that all reforms will be fast-tracked.

Ahead of the rollout of Union Budget 2024-25, State Bank of India (SBI) chairman Dinesh Khara has sought relief from tax on income earned in the form of interest on bank deposits.

Representatives of skill sector firms who met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for pre-budget consultations appealed her to take measures towards creating a safety net for gig workers. They also urged her to take steps towards the formalisation of construction labourers.

"We suggested that if the household provides a social security deposit on behalf of the domestic worker and in return the household will get a rebate of 12 per cent in income tax," Industry body Indian Staffing Federation ED Sucheta Dutta, who attended the pre-budget consultation meeting with Sitharaman, told news agency PTI.
