Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited reported a profit of ₹262 crore in the October-December quarter of the current fiscal year (Q3 FY25), its first-ever profitable period since 2007. The company turned profitable on the back of network expansion, cost optimisation, innovative measures and customer-centric service improvements.

“We are pleased with our financial performance this quarter, which reflects our focus on innovation, customer satisfaction, and aggressive network expansion. With these efforts, we expect revenue growth to improve further, exceeding 20% by the end of the financial year. Revenue from Mobility, FTTH, and Leased Lines has increased by 15%, 18%, and 14% respectively over Q3 of the previous year. Additionally, BSNL has successfully reduced its finance cost and overall expenditure, leading to a decline in losses by over ₹1,800 crore compared to last year,” a Ministry of Communications release quoted A. Robert J. Ravi, CMD, BSNL, announcing the quarterly financial results.

BSNL Q3: Key revenue highlights

  • Revenue from mobility services increased by 15%.

  • Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) segment’s revenue rose by 18%.

  • Revenue of the company’s Leased Line services increased by 14% over Q3 FY24.

The company expanded its 4G rollout and upgraded the fiber-optic infrastructure, bolstering connectivity in rural and urban areas. It launched a National WiFi Roaming service for smooth internet connectivity and BiTV offering free entertainment to mobile customers. Its cost optimisation measures led to a narrowing of losses by over ₹1,800 crore when compared to the previous fiscal year. BSNL is now focusing on revenue growth and expects to rise by over 20% by the end of the current fiscal year.

The ₹262 crore profit highlights BSNL’s revival and long-term sustainability, Ravi said, adding that BSNL is committed to expanding its market and driving innovation.

CMD Ravi said, “To enhance our customer experience, we have introduced new innovations such as National WiFi Roaming, BiTV – Free Entertainment for All Mobile Customers, and IFTV for All FTTH Customers. Our continuous focus on Quality of Service and Service Assurance has further strengthened customer trust and reinforced BSNL’s position as a leading telecom service provider in India.”
