The seized items, worth ₹70 lakh, were found either lacking the mandatory ISI mark or bearing counterfeit ISI labels.

The BIS officials also conducted raids at Instakart Services Pvt Limited, a Flipkart subsidiary, located in Tri Nagar.

The operation uncovered a stockpile of around 590 pairs of sports footwear, packaged for dispatch without the required ISI mark or date of manufacture. The seized footwear was valued at around ₹6 lakh.

Over the past month, the BIS has intensified its crackdown on substandard goods, conducting similar operations across cities such as Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Lucknow, and Sriperumbudur.

On Tuesday, the BIS conducted a search and seizure operation at a warehouse of Amazon in Hyderabad and seized 2,783 "uncertified" consumer products.

The seized products are estimated to be worth more than ₹50 lakhs, an official release said on Wednesday.

During the raid, a total of 2,783 consumer goods, including smartwatches, electric water heaters, CCTV cameras, domestic electric food mixers, domestic pressure cookers, wireless earbuds, and electric and non-electric toys were found stored and offered for sale without the mandatory BIS Certification.

“These products fall under the purview of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Government of India making BIS certification compulsory. The seized products sold without the requisite BIS Standard Mark are estimated to be worth more than ₹50 lakh,” P.V. Srikanth, Director and Head, BIS Hyderabad, said.

The raids are part of the agency’s efforts to ensure compliance with quality standards and safeguard consumer interests. Currently, 769 products are listed for compulsory certification under regulations set by various government ministries and regulators.

It is illegal to manufacture, import, distribute, sell, hire, lease, store, or exhibit these products for sale without a valid BIS license or Certificate of Compliance (CoC).

Violators of these regulations face strict penalties under sub-section (3) of section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016, which includes imprisonment, fines, or both.
