Bank holidays in September 2024: Check state-wise list of dates of closures

As per the calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), there are a total of 9 bank holidays in September. However, the state-wise list of holidays differs.

The stock market will not remain closed due to the public holidays in September 2024

Public and private banks will remain closed on number of days during September, in view of the various public holidays to be observed during the month.

As per the calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), there are a total of 9 bank holidays in September. However, the state-wise list of holidays differs.

In case of national festivals, bank holidays are announced in all parts of the country. However, in case of state or region specific festivals, holidays are notified by the central bank in those states where the occasion or the festival is to be widely observed.

Apart from the state-specific nine bank holidays in September, the financial institutions would remain closed as usual on Sundays.

September 4Banks to remain closed in Guwahati (Assam) as the state would observe Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.
September 7Banks to remain closed in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Goa on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
September 9A bank holiday will be observed in Kerala on the occasion of Onam.
September 16Bank holiday will be observed in the states of Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala, and in the Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and New Delhi on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad or Milad-un-Nabi.
September 17In Sikkim and Jharkhand, the banks will remain shut to observe Indrajatra.
September 18Banks will also remain closed in Sikkim on this date to observe Pang-Lhabsol.
September 20The lenders will remain shut in Jammu & Kashmir on the first Friday following Eid-e-Milad.
September 21A bank holiday will be observed in Kerala on the occasion of Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day.
September 23On this date, banks will remain closed in Jammu & Kashmir as the UT will observe the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.

In the month of August 2024, a total of seven bank holidays were observed, but the state-wise list differed based on the region specific festivals. However, all lenders across the country were closed on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day.
