May 2024 Bank holidays state-wise list

  • May 1 (Wednesday): For Maharashtra Day and May Day (Labour Day), banks will be closed in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Telangana, West Bengal, Bihar, Kerala and Goa.

  • May 7 (Tuesday): Banks will be in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa for Lok Sabha elections.

  • May 8 (Wednesday): Banks will be shut in West Bengal for Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti

  • May 10 (Friday): On this date, banks will be shut in Karnataka on account of Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya.

  • May 13 (Tuesday): A Bank holiday has been notified in Srinagar for general elections.

  • May 16 (Thursday): On this date, banks will remain closed in Sikkim for State Day.

  • May 20: Bank holiday has been notified in Maharashtra for general elections.

  • May 23: On account of Buddha Purnima, banks will remain closed in Mizoram, Tripura, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, Jammu, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Srinagar.

  • May 25: Banks will be shut in Tripura and Orissa on the occasion of Nazrul Jayanti.

Stock Market holidays in May

The BSE and the National Stock Exchange will be closed for a total of two days in May. The bourses will be shut on May 1 (Maharashtra Day) and May 20 (Lok Sabha elections), when voting will be held in Mumbai – the city where the two main exchanges are located. The equity, equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives segments will be shut for trading.
