Why are banks open on March 31?

Although banks were scheduled to be closed for Ramzan-Id, to facilitate year-end closures and government-related financial transactions, all agency banks handling government transactions will remain open on Monday, March 31, 2025.

Will banks remain closed on all Saturdays from April 1?

Recently, some media reports gaining attention on the internet said that banks across India will follow a 5-day workweek from April 1, 2025. However, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) clarified that this was fake news. The PIB Factcheck said the claim made by a media house saying that all banks in India would operate 5 days a week from April following a new regulation issued by the RBI is fake. It said that for all official information related to the RBI, one must visit the RBI website.
