Bank holiday today: Are banks closed in your state on Oct 20 for Diwali 2025; check list

Banks across several states are set to remain closed on Monday, October 20, on the occasion of Diwali, which, in some states, will be celebrated on October 21.

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar, the closures vary across states based on local festivals and customs.

This year, most states will celebrate Diwali on October 20, while a few others will observe it on October 21, resulting in different bank closure schedules.

Bank holiday on October 20: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, New Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

Bank holiday on October 21: Maharashtra, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.

Following Diwali, banks in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will remain closed on October 22 for Bali Pratipada/Vikram Samvant New Year Day/Govardhan Pooja/Balipadyami.

On October 23, banks in Gujarat, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh will observe a holiday for Bhai Bij/Bhaidooj/Chitragupt Jayanti/Laxmi Puja (Deepawali)/Bhratridwitiya/Ningol Chakkouba.

In the eastern states, banks in Bihar and Jharkhand will remain closed on October 27 and 28 for Chhath Puja, while West Bengal will also observe a bank holiday on October 27.

The month will conclude with a bank holiday on October 31 to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday.

Banks will observe regular weekly offs on October 25 (fourth Saturday) and Sundays (October 19 and 26) as per standard practice.

While physical branches will remain shut on these days, customers can continue to access essential banking services through ATMs, mobile apps and internet banking platforms, which will remain operational.
