Bakrid holidays will be observed state-wise on either May 27 or May 28 or both.

Bank holiday on May 27

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, banks in Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand will remain closed on May 27 on the occasion of Bakrid.

However, the Centre has revised the Bakrid holiday date for central government offices in the national capital.

The Ministry of Personnel said all central government administrative offices in Delhi/New Delhi will now remain closed on May 28 instead of May 27.

Bank holiday on May 28

Banks in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Goa, Tripura and Meghalaya will observe the Bakrid holiday on May 28.

2-day holiday

In Kerala and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, banks will remain shut for two consecutive days — May 27 and May 28.

Banks open in these states

Meanwhile, banks in Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh are scheduled to remain open on both days, according to the RBI matrix.

The staggered holiday schedule means customers may want to plan branch visits, cheque clearances, cash withdrawals and other banking work in advance to avoid last-minute inconvenience.

Digital banking services such as ATMs, UPI, mobile banking and internet banking will continue to function during the holidays.

The RBI’s bank holiday calendar varies across states and Union Territories depending on local festival observances and is notified under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
