Bajaj Auto is set to launch the world's first CNG motorcycle on June 18, 2024,” Rajiv Bajaj was reported as saying. The date of announcement did not have a major impact on the automaker’s stock, as the shares remained almost flat during the day’s trade.

‘World’s first CNG motorcycle’: What to expect

Bajaj Auto is yet to formally share the details related to the upcoming CNG motorcycle, but it is widely expected that the two-wheeler manufacturer will target cost-conscious customers with the product.

CNG, being a comparatively cheaper fuel as compared to petrol, is likely to create the product’s appeal among the middle and lower-middle income group, experts said.

The exact specifications are unknown for now, but Times of India, citing the test run visuals, said the vehicle looks similar to a regular commuter motorcycle with features such as telescopic forks and halogen turn indicators. The bike is also equipped with a monoshock unit, it reported.

The tyres are fitted on multi-spoke alloy wheels, and the two-wheeler has a single-piece long seat – similar to most other motorcycles in the budget range, the newspaper said. The vehicle is also equipped with a disc and drum braking system, it added.

More technical specifications, such as engine power, are yet to be shared. Bajaj Auto may have either developed a new engine for the CNG motorcycle, or modified its existing engines used in petrol-powered two-wheelers.

Price, name yet to be released

The price range is also yet to be shared, but experts claim that the motorcycle is likely to be priced in accordance with the entry-segment budget range.

Bajaj Auto is also yet to announce the brand name for its first CNG motorcycle, but reports have pointed out that the company, earlier this year, filed trademark applications for names such as Freedom, Trekker, Glider, and Marat.
