The deal marks one of the largest-ever investments in an AI company and deepens Microsoft’s ties to Anthropic even as it maintains its multibillion-dollar relationship with OpenAI.

Under the agreements, Anthropic will scale its Claude AI models on Microsoft’s Azure cloud, using infrastructure powered by Nvidia chips.

Anthropic has committed to purchase $30 billion worth of Azure compute capacity and to contract up to one gigawatt of additional capacity to train and run its models.

The startup is also entering its first deep technology collaboration with Nvidia to co-design future models and to optimise upcoming Nvidia architectures, including the Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems.

Microsoft and Anthropic are expanding an existing relationship to give businesses wider access to Claude.

Customers of Microsoft Foundry will be able to use Anthropic’s newest models, including Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1 and Claude Haiku 4.5.

Claude will become the only frontier model available across all three major cloud providers, Microsoft said in its corporate blog.

Microsoft will continue integrating Claude into its Copilot product family, including GitHub Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot, and offer the models through its Microsoft Foundry developer platform.

As part of the agreements, Nvidia will invest up to $10 billion in Anthropic and Microsoft up to $5 billion.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang hailed the deal as a milestone in aligning the infrastructure, silicon and model layers that power generative AI.

Nadella said the partnership underscored Microsoft’s goal of offering customers “the best infrastructure, model choice and applications,” alongside its existing work with OpenAI.

Amodei said the company was eager to bring Claude to more enterprise customers and to accelerate model development with the additional compute capacity. He called the Nvidia partnership “the beginning of a very long” collaboration to co-optimise future chips and models.

Huang described the deal as “a dream come true” for Nvidia’s engineers, praising Anthropic’s contributions to AI safety research and tooling. “Your business is on a rocket ship,” he told Amodei.
