A McKinsey report predicts AI will disrupt 12 million jobs by 2030, paralleling shifts seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sectors such as healthcare and STEM will grow, while jobs in administrative assistance, customer service, food service, and manufacturing face automation risks. AI could upend job market by 2033 according to a McKinsey report; About 12 million jobs will be in jeopardy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to significantly disrupt the job market over the next decade, according to a report by McKinsey. AI is likely to cause a transition of 12 million jobs by 2030, a job shift of this magnitude seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, said Kweilin Ellingrud, a senior partner at McKinsey and director of its Global Institute.

The report also said that certain sectors like healthcare and STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) will experience growth due to AI penetration.

Whereas, other sectors, mainly four categories—administrative assistance, customer service and sales, food service, and production and manufacturing, will be impacted.

The nature of the work in these categories is repetitive, data collection and basic data processing. AI can easily automate these functions, said Ellingrud, co-author of the McKinsey report. According to Ellingrud’s estimates, 11.8 million workers will face a decreasing demand and will have to transition to new fields by 2030.

She also iterated that this set of workers will have to be quick to adapt to new lines of work. "It's crucial for individuals to stay informed about the evolving job landscape and develop skills that are less susceptible to automation," she said.

Recently, ChatGPT 4o shared a list of 40 jobs that could be replaced by AI chatbot in India.

Due to rapid advancements in AI, software developers, web developers, coders, computer programmers, and data scientists may face job loss in future.

If ChatGPT 4o is to be believed, the job that is most likely to be replaced by the chatbot in India is that of a Data entry clerk. The bot can do the same task much faster with fewer errors.

It is not that people aren’t aware of this AI invasion, workers in the susceptible fields have already started making the moves to avoid being caught on the wrong foot.
