Union Minister Jyotiradtiya Scindia on Tuesday, August 19, announced the launch of Advanced Postal Technology (APT) throughout the country by the India Post Office.
The APT initiative is part of India’s digital transformation under IT 2.0 with an outlay of ₹5,800 crore.
The APT is aimed at transforming India Post into a world-class public logistics organisation, the minister said, adding that the platform will enable real-time decision making, boost e-commerce reach, reduce operational costs and provide citizen-first services.
“Elated to announce the nationwide rollout of Advanced Postal Technology (APT) by @IndiaPostOffice, a historic leap in Bharat’s digital journey. Backed by an investment of ₹5800 Cr under IT 2.0, APT will transform India Post into a world-class public logistics organisation,” Scindia said in a post on X.
APT offers a user-friendly interface and more efficient delivery, integrating postal services into digital and online modes. Users will now be able to make UPI-based digital payments by scanning QR codes, enabling cashless transactions for several services, including Speed Post, Registered Post, Parcels, International Mail, and Electronic Money Orders.
Key features of the system include customer support for both retail and bulk orders with self-booking, pick-up and drop facilities and integrated UPI payment.
More than 20 lakh goods were booked and over 25 lakh articles were delivered across India on August 5, 2025, using the updated system, the Ministry of Communications said in a release on August 6.
While the first day of the rollout was slow, as this move involved over 1.64 lakh post offices in urban, rural and remote areas, the speed issues were fixed by the technical team by August 5.
“Anticipating such challenges because of the scale and complexity of this roll out, the Department has already put in place dedicated support teams and real-time monitoring systems to promptly address and resolve operational issues. The APT system is now delivering notable improvements in transaction speed, digital payment integration, real-time tracking, and overall user experience. On 05.08.2025, more than 20 lakh articles were booked and more than 25 lakh articles were delivered through the new application across India,” the Communications Ministry said in the release.
The release added, “India Post remains firmly committed to ensuring uninterrupted public service. The Department is closely monitoring performance and continues to take all necessary measures to ensure a smooth and efficient transition. It also extends sincere gratitude to citizens for their patience and cooperation during this critical digital upgrade.”
