The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) growth was lower than the 8% recorded in August 2026.

Manufacturing output grew 7.6% in September, while electricity and gas supply expanded 11.2%, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said.

Mining and quarrying output, however, contracted 6.2% during the month.

Water supply, sewerage and waste management recorded a growth of 5.8%.

The IIP stood at 124.3 in September, compared with 116.5 in the same month last year.

Within the manufacturing sector, 17 of the 23 industry groups recorded positive growth in September over the year-ago period.

Manufacture of electrical equipment led the growth with an expansion of 33.9%, followed by rubber and plastics products at 19.9% and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers at 19%.

Growth in motor vehicle manufacturing was supported by auto components, spares and accessories, passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

Electrical apparatus used for switching or protecting electrical circuits, including switchgear and circuit breakers, along with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and solid-state drives, contributed to the expansion in electrical equipment manufacturing.

In the rubber and plastics products segment, acrylic sheets, tyres for light motor vehicles and rubber V-belts and conveyors were among the key contributors.

Data based on the use-based classification showed that intermediate goods output grew 12.2% in September, while capital goods production expanded 10.4%.

Infrastructure and construction goods recorded a growth of 7.2%, while primary goods output rose 4%.

Consumer durables production increased 6% during the month. Consumer non-durables recorded a more modest growth of 1.4%.

Intermediate goods, primary goods and capital goods were the top three positive contributors to overall industrial production growth, according to the ministry.

The IIP for October 2026 will be released on November 30.
