The ministry will convene the second pre-release consultative workshop on revisions gross domestic product, inflation and industrial output later this week, ahead of rolling out new base-year series in 2026.

India is in the process of updating the base years used to calculate its core macroeconomic indicators to better reflect changes in the structure of the economy, consumption patterns and industrial activity.

As per the announced timelines, the new CPI series with base year 2024=100 is scheduled to be released on February 12, 2026.

The revised national accounts series with FY 2022-23 as the base year will be released on February 27, 2026, while the new IIP series with base year 2022-23 is slated for release on May 28, 2026.

Tuesday's pre-release consultative workshop follows the first workshop, which was conducted on November 26 in Mumbai.

The primary objective of the workshop is to share proposed methodological and structural changes in the revised series and seek feedback from a broad group of stakeholders, including economists, financial sector experts, statisticians, users of official data and senior officials from central and state governments, the ministry said in a statement.

The inaugural session will be attended by Suman K Bery, vice chairman of NITI Aayog, as chief guest, along with Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran, MoSPI Secretary Saurabh Garg and Director General (Central Statistics) N. K. Santoshi.

The participation of this diverse group is expected to enrich the discussions and familiarise users with the changes in the revised series.

Technical sessions on GDP, CPI and IIP will follow, alongside open-house discussions.

“A booklet containing the brief concept notes on proposed changes in base revision of GDP, CPI, and IIP will also be shared with the participants,” the ministry said.
