How to ensure if you have added a nominee to your EPF account?

While reviewing one's finances should be a periodic task, amid all the daily hassles, it is very often overlooked. And many times you tend to forget what you have done and what not with regard to various financial tasks. Declaring the EPF nominee makes the claim process easier for them in your absence. Also, it is mandatory to add the nominee as per the EPF Scheme, 1952.

Here is a step-by-step guide to check whether or not you have added a nominee in your EPF account or not.

Log in to your EPF account online: Go to the official EPFO Unified Portal for EPF members. Login using your credentials and then enter the captcha. Go to the e-nomination: Under the Manage tab in the top, choose the e-nomination from the drop down. Now you need to check for the nomination, if you have already added - their details will auto appear. Also, you can check the nomination history or view tab. If the status appears as ‘nomination successful’- the nominees are successfully added into the system, else not.

Ensure you e-sign the e-nomination as without it your claim shall not be entertained

“E-nominations that are only filed and pdf not e-signed will not be considered for action in the event of demise of the member. E-Nomination becomes complete only when the pdf is e-signed,” says the EPF eNomination document.

So, e-signing is an essential step that you cannot miss out when declaring your nominees under EPF online.

However, remember that e-nomination against EPF is available only for aadhaar-verified UAN holders and the facility can be accessed from the UAN-based login of the member.
