What does rising AICPI-IW mean for employees?

Rising AICPI-IW over the last few months simply means inflation is increasing for industrial workers. As per 7th CPC norms, the government uses this data to calculate the DA hike to neutralise the impact of inflation on central government employees' monthly pay.

The Government announces DA hike twice a year, first with effect from January 1 and second with effect from July 1. The AICPI-IW data for July 2026 will be relevant for calculating DA hike with effect from January 1, 2027. For DA hike with effect from July 1, 2026, the government is yet to announce its decision.
