Similar to gold, silver prices have also crashed dramatically from their all-time high of ₹4,27,100/kg- recorded in January this year. The decline came amid a host of factors including heavy profit-booking after a phenomenal rally, a strengthening dollar post the nomination of Kevin Warsh as the US Fed Chair, and a swift fall in global bullion prices.

Silver prices in India are determined based on international spot rates, currency exchange rates (USD/INR), and import duties.

Factors influencing silver price in India today

Silver prices, in tandem with the recovery in the yellow-metal, traded with a positive bias on Monday. On the MCX, silver futures for May delivery after recording the day’s low at ₹2,29,651 per kg, traded higher by 0.01% or ₹15 at ₹2,32,510 at around 11:00 am (IST).

Despite escalation of US-Israel and Iran tensions, silver prices have come off sharply by as much as ₹1.6 lakh in India. This is as fresh inflationary concerns in the wake of rising energy prices have bolstered expectations of higher-for-longer interest rates, denting the demand for silver.

Internationally, spot silver traded lower by nearly 0.9 per cent at $72.35 per ounce, extending its decline.
