Dhanteras 2026: What the WGC says about festive gold demand

In its India gold market update published on October 20, Kavita Chacko, Research Head for India at the WGC, said: “Seasonal gold demand is gaining traction as the market enters the key festive and wedding period.”

The report said a recent moderation in gold prices had supported seasonal demand, with jewellers reporting improved store footfall and manufacturers seeing healthy order flows as retailers replenished inventories.

However, elevated gold prices could continue to limit jewellery volumes, even as festive and wedding-related purchases support the market.

The WGC's assessment suggests that Indian gold demand will depend partly on whether consumers view price declines as an opportunity to buy. Jewellery purchases, investment demand and the affordability of gold will remain important factors during the festive season.

What could move gold and silver prices next?

Despite Monday's recovery, precious metals remain under pressure following last week's decline. Investors will watch the US Federal Reserve's policy decision and commentary, inflation indicators, crude oil prices, the dollar and bond yields for further direction.

For Indian buyers, movements in international bullion prices and the rupee-dollar exchange rate will also affect domestic prices. Festive demand could provide support, but high prices may continue to influence the quantity of jewellery consumers purchase.

The US midterm elections are another factor to monitor, rather than a standalone signal for the direction of gold. The eventual market response will depend on how policy developments affect interest rates, currencies, geopolitical risks and investor demand.
