US stock market opens in green; NASDAQ 100 jumps 1.2%, S&P500 and Dow rises 0.3% on Tuesday

The buoyancy in tech stocks led to a sharp rally in the NASDAQ 100 index. The chip makers like Micron, Nvidia, Intel, and AMD soared as much as 9% on Tuesday ahead of major tech earnings starting this week.

The US stock markets recouped Monday’s losses across the board to open in green on Tuesday. The Dow Jones rose over 150 points or 0.3% near 52,000 levels. The S&P 500 rose over 27 points to trade near 7,472 levels on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy NASDAQ 100 index soared over 360 points or 1.2%, led by rally in chip stocks.

Among the top gainers, Micron (+8%),Sandisk Corporation (+9.4%), Nvidia Corporation (+1.8%), AMD (+5%) were the top gainers in the NASDAQ 100 index at 7:15 pm (IST) on Tuesday.

Additionally, the chip stocks were in focus ahead of Alphabet’s quarterly earnings on Wednesday, where investors will closely watch for the cues of AI-related infrastructure spending by the hyperscaler.

Among the major earnings, General Motors Company posted above estimates earnings growth across the board for the Q2 of 2026. The company’s revenue stood at $48.03 billion as compared to $47.1 billion in the previous year’ same quarter.

The earnings per share stood at $3.57 per share as against the consensus estimates of $3.1 per share and 41% higher than previous year from $2.5 per share. Taking the cues from robust earnings growth, the shares rose nearly 4% on Tuesday at $78.5 per share.

Meanwhile Amazon Inc’s share price fell 1.2% after its data centre in Baharain came under attack by Iranian missile strikes. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and its armed forces stated that they have targeted multiple US-linked assets across the gulf region, including Amazon’s central data infrastructure in Bahrain.

The Asian markets ended mostly higher on Tuesday amid hopes that United States and Iran will resume peace negotiations.Chinese Markets jumped, a day after several state-owned enterprises announced measures including share buybacks, stake increases and dividend payouts as they remain confident in the prospects of the country's capital market. The Japanese and Korean indices allied over 3% as investors went bargain hunting for tech heavyweights following last week's sharp selloff.

The crude oil prices extended the gains on Tuesday as warnings by Houthi rebel’s increased the risk of supply shocks in the oil market. The WTI crude oil price jumped 2.3% to $84 per barrel and the Brent Crude oil prices soared past $91 per barrel again on Tuesday.
