The ₹999 unlimited plan for 84-day will now cost ₹1,199 as against ₹999 earlier.

Reliance Jio on Thursday increased its mobile tariff by 12% to 27%, effective July 3, 2024. Notably, this is the first time in two and a half years that the telecom operator has increased the prices of its popular prepaid and postpaid plans.

The company also restricted customers' access to unlimited 5G data, making it only available on all 2 gigabytes (GB) and above plans.

According to experts, the hike, which comes a day after the spectrum auction, has set the stage for other operators like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea to raise charges.

In a statement, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, said, "The introduction of new plans is a step in the direction of furthering industry innovation and driving sustainable growth through investments in 5G and AI technology."

The mobile service rates for almost all plans have been raised, with the lowest recharge being ₹19 (₹15 previously) for a 1 GB data add-on pack.

The ₹999 unlimited plan for three months will now cost ₹1,199 as against ₹999 earlier.

Reliance Jio has also raised the price of the popular ₹719 unlimited plan with 84-day validity by about 20 per cent to ₹859.

The 75GB postpaid plan will now cost ₹449 as against ₹399.

"Unlimited 5G data will be available on all 2GB per day and above plans... The new plans will be made effective on July 3, 2024, and can be opted from all existing touchpoints and channels," the statement said.

In December 2021, Jio and VI and Airtel had hiked tariff rates.

Besides the increase in mobile service rates, Jio introduced two applications - Jio Safe and JioTranslate. The new offerings will be free for its customers for one year,

Priced at ₹199 per month, JioSafe is a quantum-secure communication app for calling, messaging, and file transfer.

AI-enabled JioTranslate is a multilingual communication application that can translate voice calls and messages, text, and images.
