Quick commerce firms, including Zomato’s Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart, were set to clock record-high orders on the occasion of Holi, as per sales trends shared by the companies on Monday, March 25.

The sales had surged in the weekend leading up to Holi, with Blinkit co-founder and chief executive Albinder Dhindsa announcing on social media that the company recorded its “highest order volume per minute (OPM) on Sunday” and was “on track to break (its) all-time high orders record (from Valentine’s Day this year).”

The products ordered the most via quick commerce delivery platforms included gulaal (colour), pichkaris (water guns), sweets and flowers, followed by white T-shirts and coconut oil, reports said, citing executives of the above firms.

“People are starting to realise that Zepto serves a lot more use cases than daily grocery,” Zepto co-founder and CEO Aadit Palicha posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Laundry detergents are “spiking way beyond our expectations - Zepto never ceases to surprise me," he added.

Swiggy cofounder Phani Kishan Adeepalli, who also leads Swiggy Instamart, said on Monday that the firm “has already sold 5X more flowers” this Holi compared to last year.

The company was set to register over 700,000 daily orders on Monday, which is its highest-ever, the Economic Times reported, citing sources. On a routine business day, the firm clocks around 550,000 orders, the report added. Zepto was also set to close at a record high of 600,000 daily orders, the newspaper learnt from its spokesperson, adding that the company usually records 500,000 orders per day.

Quick commerce firms have been recording an uptick in business on festival days. Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and Blinkit reported record-high orders on Valentine’s Day this year. The total sales had surpassed the previous records registered on New Year’s Eve.

The shares of Zomato, the owner of Blinkit and the only listed entity among the above firms, edged higher during the early trading hours on Tuesday, March 26. The stock was valued at ₹174.95 on the NSE at 10:36 am, higher by 0.75% as against the previous day’s close.
