SUMMARY
Stock markets in India will be closed on April 18 for the occasion of the Christian holiday Good Friday, which observes the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. MCX will remain shut on Friday, April 18, and banks in some states will also be closed as per the RBI schedule.
The holiday for Good Friday will be followed by a weekend, and trading on the stock market will resume on Monday, April 21 at 9:15 AM.
In 2025, April has the maximum number of stock market holidays in India. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on Friday, April 18, for the occasion of Good Friday.
Trading in derivatives, equities, currency derivatives, security lending and borrowing scheme (SLBS) stocks, and interest rate derivatives will also be shut.
So far this month, the stock market was closed for two days on April 10 on account of Mahavir Jayanti and on April 14 for Ambedkar Jayanti. Good Friday will be the third market holiday for April alone, and even the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed on April 18.
Along with the three holidays on special days, April has a total of 11 market holidays including the weekends (4 Saturdays and 4 Sundays).
The holiday for Good Friday will be followed by a weekend, and trading on the stock market will resume on Monday, April 21 at 9:15 AM.
The commodity market MCX will be closed tomorrow for Good Friday. Both morning (09:00 am to 5:00 pm) and evening sessions (5:00 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm) of the MCX will remain shut on April 18.
After the three holidays in April, there will only be one holiday in May for Maharashtra Day on May 1, following which there will be no market holidays until August 15 (Independence Day).

As per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday schedule, banks will also be closed in many states on Friday. Banks in Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar will remain shut tomorrow, while internet banking, mobile apps, SMS banking, and ATM services will function as usual.
