The price of one litre of toned milk, sold in the blue packet, will rise from ₹46 to ₹54.

The revised rates are set to come into effect from November 1.

"The state government has discussed and decided to increase the price of milk up to ₹8 per litre," Karnataka Minister Krishna Byre Gowda told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

Of the ₹8 increase, ₹7 will be passed on to dairy farmers, while the remaining ₹1 will go to milk unions, Gowda said.

The Cabinet had approved the proposal on October 6, but the announcement was delayed due to the Model Code of Conduct being in force for the Legislative Council elections.

Milk unions had sought a price revision citing rising costs of cattle feed, fodder, medicines, transportation and plastic packaging, besides fodder shortages caused by drought.

Representatives of the unions had met Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and sought an increase of ₹8-10 per litre.

The latest revision follows a series of milk price increases in the state in recent years.

In March 2025, milk prices were increased by ₹4 per litre. In June 2024, rates were raised by ₹2 per litre, with consumers initially receiving an additional 50 ml of milk for every litre purchased. The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) later withdrew the additional quantity.

Milk prices were also increased by ₹3 per litre in July 2023 and by the same amount in November 2022.
