In a big leap for semiconductor industry, Union Cabinet approves three more units

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the establishment of three semiconductor units- two in Gujarat and one in Assam.

All three units will start construction within the next 100 days. The plants are being established with an estimated cost of ₹1.26 lakh crore.

The approved three semiconductor units are

  • Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) will set up a semiconductor fab in partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC), Taiwan. The fab will be constructed in Gujarat's Dholera with an investment of ₹91,000 crore.
  • Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (TSAT) will set up a semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam. Investment in this plant will be ₹27,000 crore.
  • CG Power, in partnership with Renesas Electronics Corporation, Japan and Stars Microelectronics, Thailand will set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. This unit will be established with an investment of ₹7,600 crore.

These units will generate direct employment of 20,000 advanced technology jobs and around 60,000 indirect jobs. The plants will also accelerate employment creation in downstream automotive, electronics manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, telecom manufacturing and other semiconductor consuming industries.
