Nationwide bank strikes in September

Apart from the listed holidays, bank services may see disruption in September due a series of nationwide strikes planned by bank unions.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for nationwide strikes to press for implementation of five-day banking and withdrawal of the government's revised performance-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for senior bank officers.

The UFBU said bank employees and officers would observe an all-India strike on September 11, followed by a three-day strike from September 28 to 30.

In case the strikes are not called off, bank customers could face major disruption in services in September, especially during the month end.

Banks will be shut on September 26 (2nd Saturday) and September 27 (Sunday), and the proposed three-day strike from September 28 to 30 would mean five consecutive days of disruption to banking services.
