Emami’s Q4 profits soar multifold
- During the March quarter, the FMCG and cosmetics maker’s net profit nearly quadrupled to ₹88 crore. The sharp improvement in profits was supported by a 37% growth in revenues and higher other income.
- The company was able to better absorb inflation in commodity prices by controlling other expenses. Despite the positive result, the stock was down 2.3% yesterday.
Bajaj Electricals posts mixed results
- The electrical-appliance maker reported a 3.2% decline in its revenue from operations. The company’s revenue from its engineering, procurement and construction business fell by over 50%. However, revenues from its core consumer products segment rose 30%.
- Despite a sharp increase in commodity prices and a weakening of overall demand sentiment, net profit stood at ₹54 crore in Q4. This compares to a ₹81 lakh loss reported during the same period last year. The stock declined 1% yesterday and is down about 2% so far in May.
Stimulus likely for travel and tourism sectors
- As per news reports, the government may be working on a stimulus package to jump-start the tourism, aviation and hospitality sectors, where demand has been badly impacted by the second wave.
- This, coupled with hopes of an unlock from next week onwards, has triggered investor interest in stocks related to these three sectors. Stocks such as Spicejet (+31%), Indian Hotels (+21%), EIH (+26%), Wonderla (+17%) and Easy Trip Planners (+46%) have witnessed sharp gains this month.
Godawari Power sees profits surge
- Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd posted an 8x year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to ₹304 crore for the March quarter, mainly due to higher steel revenues. Meanwhile, revenue from operations surged 60%.
- It has reduced its long term gross debt significantly from ₹1,055 crore to ₹193 crore in May 2021and plans to become debt-free in FY22. It will invest ₹750 crore to set up a 250 MW captive solar power plant and plans to fund it from internal accruals. The stock rose 6.1% yesterday amid a lacklustre market.
