Har Ghar Tiranga is an initiative launched by the government in 2022 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign which encourages citizens to display the Indian Flag, or Tiranga, in their homes.

According to the Ministry of Culture, “the idea behind the initiative was to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian National Flag.”

Citizens are advised to hoist the national flag in their houses, in accordance to the Flag Code of India, 2002, which brings together all laws, conventions, practices and instructions for the display of the National Flag.

This year, the campaign’s third edition was kickstarted on August 13 with a bike rally from Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, to Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, passing through India Gate.

A full dress rehearsal parade for Independence Day 2024 was also performed on Tuesday, August 13.

This year, the theme for the celebrations is ‘Viksit Bharat” or Developed India, depicting the government’s aim to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
