This painting by Leonardo da Vinci known as Salvator Mundi or Saviour of the World was sold for $450.3 million to an anonymous buyer in 2017, making it the world’s most expensive artwork.

This abstract expressionist oil painting on a canvas by Willem de Kooning painted in 1955 was sold for $300 million in 2015 to Kenneth C. Griffin, making it the most expensive painting at the time.
