The World Happiness Report (March 2024) ranks countries by happiness, based on a survey of 1,000 people from 146 nations. It considers 6 factors, including social support, GDP per capita, health, freedom, generosity and corruption.
Finland
With a happiness score of 7.74 out of 10, Finland is the happiest country for the 7th year in a row. High trust and freedom, coupled with low corruption, contribute to its citizens' happiness
Denmark
With a score of 7.58, Denmark is the second-happiest country. It surpasses Finland in GDP per capita and generosity and ranks highest in happiness for adults aged over 60.
Iceland
With a score of 7.53, Iceland is 2024’s third-happiest country. The country ranks second on the generosity factor and has the highest feeling of social support. The Nordic country ranks fourth in happiness for youngsters.
Sweden
With a score of 7.344, Sweden is the fourth-happiest country. Although it ranked 18th for youth happiness (under 30), it is fourth for the happiness of older adults, making it a country where the old are significantly happier than the youth.
Israel
Israel is the fifth-happiest country in the world with a score of 7.341, despite the war in Gaza. Contrary to Sweden, Israel’s older population is significantly less happy than its youth.
