Tigers once faced near extinction in India due to poaching and habitat loss. Project Tiger, launched in 1973, began the country's fight to save its national animal.
There were 3,682 tigers in India as on June 2023, up from 2,967 in 2018, a rise of almost 24% in just four years. India is home to almost 75% of the world's tiger population.
