SpaceX successfully launches India’s GSAT-N2 satellite

SpaceX and ISRO join hands to launch GSAT-N2, India’s advanced high-throughput communication satellite.

India's GSAT-N2 satellite is set to revolutionise communication. Here's all you need to know about this historic mission!

GSAT-N2, also called GSAT-20, was built by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), ISRO’s commercial arm, under the Department of Space.

The GSAT-N2 is a 4,700 kilograms satellite, designed to improve India’s connectivity and enable in-flight Internet connectivity across the Indian subcontinent.

GSAT-N2 operates in the Ka-band with the throughput of around 48 Gbps, having a mission lifespan of 14 years and features 32 user beams. These beams will be supported by hub stations across mainland India.

Regulatory changes now allow in-flight Internet over Indian airspace, with GSAT-N2 playing an important role in its expansion.

Wi-Fi services are allowed in aircraft flying at altitudes above 3,000 metres only if the passengers are allowed to use electronic devices.

This is India’s highest throughput satellite and exclusively operating in the highly sought-after Ka-band.

The satellite successfully reached its Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO), paving the way for enhanced communication technologies.
