David Barker was awarded “for computational protein design.” His computational research has led to the “impossible” feat of creating entirely new kinds of proteins.

Demis Hassabis and John Jumper were awarded for solving a 50-year problem by developing an AI model that predicts the complex structure of proteins.

“Life could not exist without proteins. That we can now predict protein structures and design our own proteins confers the greatest benefit to humankind,” said the Nobel Committee.
