Southwest monsoon hit Mumbai on May 26, marking its earliest arrival in 75 years, according to the IMD. Monsoon usually arrives in Mumbai on June 11.

Colaba in South Mumbai recorded 308.5 mm of rain by May 25, breaking the 1951 record of 291.8 mm, marking the wettest May in over 100 years.

The IMD upgraded Mumbai's orange alert to red, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Continuous downpour led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, slowing traffic, halting buses and delaying local trains across the city.

A low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea contributes to the early and intense monsoon, bringing heavy rains to Mumbai.

Heavy rainfall hits flights, trains, road traffic, schools and offices, causing widespread delays, cancellations and daily life disruptions.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid non-essential travel and stay updated on official weather advisories.
