Mira Murati, the chief technology officer (CTO) of Microsoft-backed OpenAI, recently announced her resignation from the company through a post on X.

Murati mentioned in the post that she wishes to have the time to do her own exploration. Thus, she quit her post and said that she would focus on a ‘smooth transition’.

Born in Albania, Murati attended the Pearson United World College of the Pacific in Canada by winning a scholarship.

She started her career with an internship at Goldman Sachs and went on to work at Zodiac Aerospace as an Advanced Concepts Engineer.
Murati then worked at Elon Musk’s Tesla as a Senior Product Manager.
She joined OpenAI in 2018 as vice president of Applied AI & Partnerships and was later made the CTO.
She was also made the interim CEO of the company in November 2023 when Sam Altman was sacked by the OpenAI board.
In an interview with TIME last year in February, Murati commented on the dangers of AI and expressed her concerns over the potential misuse of it.
