Research has shown that using mobile phones just after waking up and before going to sleep are unhealthy habits that can make you addicted to your devices.
In his speech at Washington’s Economic Club in 2018, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that he doesn’t use his phone for the first hour after waking up.
Bezos noted that slow mornings without electronic devices improve his energy levels and decision-making skills throughout the entire day.
In the first hour after waking up, Bezos said he does simple things like having a coffee and talking with his family. He calls this time his ‘puttering time’.
An article in Inc. magazine delved deeper into this many neuroscientific studies supporting the idea that Bezos presented.
Highlighting the negative effects of excessive screen time on the brain, the report encouraged more of us to adopt this rule.
While one can’t completely avoid using smartphones, one can set rules to develop healthy habits.
Settling rules like avoiding phones in the washroom, before bed, or for 1 hour after waking up, can make one smarter just by limiting their screen time.
