India Post has introduced DIGIPIN, a geo-coded address system for precise location identification. Here's how it works and why it matters.
DIGIPIN is a 10-character alphanumeric code that digitally identifies precise locations, providing door-level accuracy across India.
The DIGIPIN system was launched by India Post and the Department of Posts to modernise address verification and logistics.
It aims to modernise India’s address system, enabling precise navigation, faster deliveries and improved access to public services.
DIGIPIN encodes geo-coordinates of each address. It links physical locations with digital maps to enable seamless identification.
While PIN codes cover postal regions, DIGIPIN provides hyper-local accuracy for individual buildings, entry points and exact addresses.
Users can find their unique 10-character DIGIPIN on this site: https://dac.indiapost.gov.in/mydigipin/home after verifying their address.
DIGIPIN helps e-commerce firms minimise delivery errors, enhance last-mile logistics and accurately locate customer addresses.
The system follows strict data privacy norms. DIGIPIN stores no personal data, ensuring only location-level accuracy is shared.
DIGIPIN is voluntary today. India Post is enabling phased adoption, with PIN codes and DIGIPIN co-existing for seamless integration.
