Tantalise means to torment. After the Greek King Tantalus angered the gods, he was placed in a pool of water beneath a fruit tree, but whenever he reached for food or water, it would recede out of his reach.
Midas touch refers to the ability to make every venture successful. It comes from the Greek King Midas, who was granted his wish to turn everything he touched into gold.
