This was launched into low earth orbit in 1990. US space agency NASA built the telescope with help from the European Space Agency. 

Hubble Telescope

This is a Flagship-class space telescope launched by NASA in 1999 on the 95th launch of the Space Shuttle, STS-93. 

Chandra X-ray Observatory

This is an infrared space telescope launched in 2003 by NASA. Its operations ended in 2020 and was deactivated. 

Spitzer Space Telescope

This was built and operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) and was functional from 2009 to 2013. 

Herschel Space Observatory

This was also operated by the ESA during 2009-2013 and was a major source of information for several cosmological and astrophysical issues.

Planck Observatory

This was launched by NASA in 2009 to discover Earth-sized planets orbiting other stars. It officially retired in 2018.
