Founded by Chandragupta Maurya, this was India's largest empire. Ashoka's reign brought peace, trade and spread of Buddhism across Asia.
The Gupta period is known as India’s Golden Age. It was a time when literature, maths and astronomy grew. Kalidasa and Aryabhata lived during this time.
The Cholas ruled Tamil Nadu and beyond with a naval force. They built grand temples like Brihadeeswara and spread Tamil culture to Southeast Asia.
The Vijayanagara Empire ruled South India with strength. It protected Hindu culture and encouraged art, architecture and trade.
Rashtrakutas ruled Deccan and built the rock-cut Kailasa Temple at Ellora. They supported Sanskrit and Kannada literature alike.
India had rich and powerful kingdoms long before the Mughals. Each left behind a legacy of culture, architecture and ideas that still shape our history.
