Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in San Francisco to Joanne Schieble and Abdulfattah Jandali. As a baby, he was adopted by Paul and Carla Jobs.
Jobs was 13 when he first met Steve Wozniak, his long-time business partner. In 1972, he built and illegally sold a “blue box” that allowed one to make phone calls for free.
Jobs attended Homestead High School in California. After graduating in 1973, Steve started at Reeds College in Oregon but dropped out of college after completing just one semester.
In 1976, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne founded Apple Inc. The same year, Jobs and Wozniak created their first personal computer, Apple I. It was followed by Apple II, which went on to sell over 6 million units.
In 1985, Jobs was ousted from Apple by the Board of Directors. He went on to co-found NeXT Inc. He also funded Pixar Animation Studios and became its CEO.
On November 29, 1995, Pixar went for an IPO, a week after the release of Toy Story. The company would float 6.9 million shares on the stock market, making Steve Jobs a billionaire.
In 1997, more than 10 years after being ousted from Apple, Jobs returned as the company’s interim CEO after the company's acquisition of NeXT.
The first thing Steve did after becoming the interim CEO was to completely redesign Apple’s product line. He went on to launch the “Think Different” ad campaign and unveiled the iPod in 2001.
On January 9, 2007, Jobs unveiled the original iPhone, along with Apple TV. He also announced the company’s name change from Apple Computer Inc. to Apple Inc. In 2010, he released the iPad.
On August 24, 2011, Steve Jobs resigned from Apple due to health reasons. Tim Cook then took over as the CEO of Apple.
Two months after his retirement, on October 5, 2011, at the age of 56, Steve Jobs passed away due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
