Mumbai locals in facts and figures

The Mumbai suburban train network is one of the first railway networks built in Asia.

The first-ever train ran between Bori Bunder (later renamed Victoria Terminus, now known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus) and Thane in 1853.

The local railway system covers more than 465 km and provides fast and efficient interconnectivity in the city and its suburbs.

More than 7.5 million people travel in Mumbai locals every single day. That is almost double the population of Uruguay.

The trains run for over 22 hours everyday, halting for less than 2 hours, as the first train leaves at around 4:10 AM, while the last one arrives at 2:15 AM.
