The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, once completed, will be the longest expressway in India with a total length of 1,386 km.
The initial cost of the project was ₹98,000 crore, which has now been revised to ₹1,05,000 crore.
The construction of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was started in 2018. Currently, three sections of the expressway have been opened.
The construction of the expressway is expected to be completed by October 2025. About 1,136 km or 82% of the expressway has been completed so far.
The expressway will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai from 24 hours at present to just 12 hours.
The Sohna-Dausa stretch of expressway, which was opened in February 2023, has reduced the travel time between Delhi and Jaipur to 3 hours from 5 hours at present.
The construction of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway involves using 12 lakh tonnes of steel, equivalent to 50 Howrah Bridges.
This is expected to generate annual fuel savings of over 320 million litres and cut CO2 emissions by 850 million kg, equivalent to planting 40 million trees.
The expressway will have animal overpasses and underpasses to facilitate unrestricted movement of animals, specifically designed to minimise the impact on wildlife in the Ranthambore National Park.
