The Paris 2024 Olympics is set to be a historic event, not just for the athletes competing, but also for the design of its medals.
In a unique blend of sports and culture, the organisers have incorporated a piece of the iconic Eiffel Tower into every medal.
Each gold, silver and bronze medal will feature an 18-gram piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower.
During renovations in the 20th century, some of its original iron was carefully preserved. And now, it is been given a new life as a symbol of Olympic triumph.
On the reverse, the medals feature the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, set against the backdrop of the Panathenaic stadium in Athens and the Eiffel Tower.
For the first time in Olympic history, the medals have been designed by a jeweller. The French jewellery company Chaumet has taken on this prestigious task.
As the world watches the athletes compete for glory, they will also be witnessing the unveiling of these extraordinary medals.
