The meeting of the 9th Governing Council of NITI Aayog, the Centre's top-most think tank, began in New Delhi on Saturday, July 27, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is the first meeting of the council after the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

The primary agenda of the council meeting is to discuss the "Approach Paper for the Vision Document on Viksit Bharat @2047", the statement said, adding that the role of states towards achieving this goal would also be a subject of discussion.
The paper will be aimed at fostering collaboration and participative governance between the Centre and states. The wider goal will be to enhance the quality of life for Indians living in both urban and rural regions, it added.
The vision document is expected to lay the broader outline for India's goal to become a $30 trillion economy by 2047. Achieving this goal requires the Centre and states to work as one "Team India", the statement noted.
The meeting also focusses on recommendations of the 3rd National Conference of Chief Secretaries held in December last year.
During the conference, recommendations were made on five key themes:
Notably, the prime minister is the chairman of the NITI Aayog. The think tank's Governing Council, which is meeting in the national capital today, is its apex body. It includes all state chief ministers, lieutenant governors of Union Territories, and several Union ministers.
